How Disney Came to Be

Disney is one of the world's largest companies, but it wouldn't be possible if it weren't for one man: Walt Disney.

   "Keep moving forward."
    -Walt Disney

Before creating the Disneyland park, Walt Disney opened a studio in Burbank, California, where a Walt Disney Studio still stands today. He began animating cartoons, such as "Steamboat Willie", with one of the world's best known characters, Mickey Mouse.  Walt created Mickey Mouse after seeing a mouse constantly in his apartment. Instead of getting rid of the mouse, he named it Mickey and began drawing it and writing stories with Mickey.  His first full-length color animation film was "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves", which he made into a ride called "Snow White's Scary Adventures", based on the movie, at Disneyland, which still remains today.  Walt thought of making Disneyland when taking his daughters places, but wishing there was a place to have fun with them.

"I'd sit on a bench, you know, eating peanuts.  I thought that there should be something built-some sort of amusement enterprise-where the parents and children could have fun together."
    -Walt Disney

Walt continued his dreams, building new rides and creating many new things.  For example, the monorail, located at Disneyland, was the first daily operating monorail in the entire western hemisphere. He also created Audio-animatronics.  Walt's theme park, and whole company, The Walt Disney company, is one many companies try to imitate, but will never get close to being as good as the clean, fun, family-friendly Disney theme parks and entire company.  Walt Disney died December 15th, 1966, but his dreams live on forever, and are kept alive especially by every Disney fan.

"Disneyland will never be complete, as long as there is imagination left in the world."
     -Walt Disney
